Permaculture Garden Clean-up
Join the Permaculture Group and Grayson LandCare for this free hands on workshop at the Permaculture garden located at 9441 Grayson Pkwy, Galax, VA 24333 on Saturday November 15 from 1-3 pm.
Have you wondered about the best way to prepare your garden for winter? Are you worried about leaving enough cover for insects, the plants and the soil? Learn how to weigh those decisions and pick what works best for your own garden. The workshop will be led by Cynthia and Rick Taylor, the creators of the Permaculture Garden. We will be cutting back some plants, leaving others to overwinter, collecting seeds, mulching, and planting some fruit trees. Dress warmly and bring gloves, pruners and loppers if you have them. For more information, contact Michelle at 276-768-0597 or Cynthia@graysonlandcare.org
Plant American Chestnuts
Are you interested in American Chestnuts? Help plant some trees with the American Chestnut Foundation and Clint Morse. Here are the details: Note, the area where we are planting is steep and footing is uneven. But, it should be a fun time! November 7 @ 8:00 am – 2:00 pm, free!
We will plant about 130 seedlings from the American Chestnut foundation. These will be predominantly progeny from large surviving American chestnuts that may have some elevated resistance and then some susceptible Americans and Chinese as controls. These seedlings will get inoculated with blight in about 5 years and we will see what happens!
We will also plant the grafted trees I grew this year from superior Chestnuts.
