There is still plenty of time to enter the Grayson County Fair.! It’s August 10 from 9am to 3pm and the Youth Livestock show begins on Friday August 9 from 5-8pm and again during the Fair from 9-3pm on August 10. If you have poultry, goats, beef or diary cows or sheep you’d like to enter in the Youth Livestock show, please contact Kevin Spurplin at the Extension office at 276.773.2491 or [email protected]. If you want to enter fruits and vegetables, arts and crafts, flowers and plants, baked and canned goods or photography look at the General Competitions book and find the rules for each class. Books are available online at https://www.graysoncountyvaagfair.com/generalcompetitions, at the Grayson County Extension office, the Grayson County Library and the Independence Farmers Market. We’ve also added a Poster Contest and Honey Show.There is no entry fee and you DO NOT have to be a Grayson County resident to enter. Youth and adults are judged separately except for the Poster contest and Honey Show.
Non-perishable and perishable competition entries will be accepted on Thursday, August 8, 2019 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. In addition, perishable competition entries will also be accepted Friday, August 9, 2019 from 7:00am until 12:30pm. Entries should be brought to Bottomley’s Evergreens and Farm 10278 Elk Creek Pkwy, Elk Creek, VA 24326.
You don’t have to enter the Fair to come enjoy the fun! While you are enjoying the livestock show and everything else the Fair has to offer, take a trip around to the many exhibitors and learn everything there is to know about farming in Grayson County. Test your skill on the mechanical bull, enjoy a pony ride, play an old fashioned game and enjoy demonstrations of traditional crafts, and just for fun, enter the watermelon eating and seed spitting contests.
