There are 2 opportunities in July to win 100!
The first is the Berry Pie contest which will be held during the Berry Festival July 19. It is sponsored by The Grayson County Historical Society. In keeping with the historical theme, this will feature traditional berry pies. Pies are limited to crust, and simple berry filling. Please bring your pies to the Market by 10:00. Judging will begin at 10:30 am. !st prize is $100, 2nd is $30 and 3rd is $20. Remaining pies will be sold by the slice to benefit the Market. The Berry Festival runs concurrent with the regular Market from 9am to 1 pm and also features berry pancake and berry sorbet fundraisers for the Market. Sorbet will be available by the bowl or frozen pint. Berries for the fundraisers were donated by co-host River Ridge Organics, a USDA certified organic berry farm near Mouth of Wilson. You can find their berries at the IFM Fridays and the Cobblestone Market in Winston Salem on Saturdays. Vendors have lots of blueberries and blackberries are also ripening. The Kids Corner will offer a berry tasting and kids will use their beautiful, vibrant colors to paint.
The other contest in July is part of the new JAM Day on July 26. The People’s Choice jam contest is sponsored by Log Jam who will be demonstrating their portable sawmill during the regular Market from 9am to 1 pm. To enter the contest, please bring a pint of jam to the Market by 9:30 am. The public will taste all the entries and vote. The winner will be announced at noon. The highlight of JAM Day is a performance by the Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) from 11am to noon. The Kids Corner will be celebrating JAM Day by making instruments out of recyclables. And to top it off, “Take a Break from the Interstate” Highway 21 yard sale begins on the 26th. Vendors will be offering yard sale items in addition to fresh local food and artisan crafts.
