National Farmers Market Week

August 5th through 11th is the perfect time to support the Independence Farmers Market!

Friday, August 11th marks the end of our “Go Fund Me” campaign.

To Donate:

Please visit https://www.gofundme.com/IndependenceFarmersMarket or give your donation directly to the Farmers Market Manager, Michelle Pridgen. Checks may be written out to Independence Farmers Market.

Your donations will provide resources to:

– Recruit local farmers and assist new farmers to grow for our market.

– Employ chefs to conduct cooking demonstrations during market hours.

– Conduct workshops.

-Offer free events and kids activities at the Market.

Here are some Independence Farmers Market stats from 2018:

Friends of the Market,

Our market was started in 2008 by Taphne Taylor Collins, Carol Lundgren, and Maureen Madden. The Town of Independence, Farm Bureau, and the Extension Service were early supporters. The Market averaged 5 or 6 vendors until Rick and Jen Cavey joined in 2011. With the addition of their produce, the market started to grow. Rick wrote and was awarded the first FMPP (Farmers Market Promotion Program) grant in 2013, which allowed me to be hired as manager and funded advertising and workshops. The Market has grown each year, both in vendors and customers, thanks to community support. The Town of Independence has generously given us the use of Town Park. We couldn’t ask for a better location. In addition, the Town is working on plans to develop Town Park into a multi-use space that will include a permanent structure that can be used for all Town events and the Farmers Market.

If now is not the right time to make a donation, you can help in other ways. Please continue to support the market by buying locally produced foods and goods from our vendors. Tell your friends about us, or better yet, bring them to the Market! Join us at our Ice Cream Social on August 19th. Share our posts on social media or volunteer with us.

Thank you for making the Independence Farmers Market what it is today.  Imagine what we can do if we keep working together…

Thanks again,

Michelle
