Kids Day is almost here! There will be free fun for the whole family during the entire Market from 9am to 1 pm on the 28th! At Kids Day, learn to throw a lasso, print with wood blocks, and have fun hula hooping and playing games. All activities are free and open to kids of all ages. Community partners include Cowboy Don, VT Extension Family Nutrition program, local artist Ellie Kirby, hula hoops and games with Laura, and Girl Scouts and more.
Games will begin on the half hour and there is a $5 first prize for each game. Here is the schedule: Games: 9:30 : #1 stand on one leg the longest, 10:30 #2 bubble gum blowing , 11:30#3 pop balloons by sitting on them relay, 12:30 #4 hula hoop contest
A new addition to Kids Day this year is “Healthy Kids Bucks”. These will be provided by Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Family Nutrition Program and sponsored by United Healthcare. The first 25 kids that visit their tent and participate in the nutrition activities will receive five free healthy bucks’ dollars for use at the Farmers Market. Kids are encouraged to use their bucks on fresh fruits and vegetables only, please. They will return to the Independence Farmer’s Market with the “Healthy Kids Bucks” on July 19th for the Berry Festival and August 2nd for the Tomato Festival. In addition, the staff will provide a healthy food-tasting sample for everyone. Come and join us for the summer fun!
