Plant a row for the hungry

If seed sales this year are any indication, most of you planted a garden this year. The IFM and Grayson LandCare would like to encourage you to “Plant a row for the hungry”. Plant A Row for the Hungry (PAR) is a national people-helping-people program that encourages gardeners to grow a little extra and donate the produce to local soup kitchens and food pantries serving the homeless and hungry in their local communities. This extra produce will help the new local food pantry, Food Independence, add fresh produce to their food boxes. They are looking for clean, reasonably sturdy produce like beans, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, squash, rather than fragile greens. Even though it’s July, there are almost 100 growing days left. You can deliver produce to the Online Market pickup on Friday July 24 from 2-5pm at 104 Courthouse Street. The first Food pantry delivery will be Tuesday July 28 from 9-11am at their location at 103 Hilltop drive Independence. Va. 24348.

We’ll see how this first produce delivery goes and see if we will continue to do during the Online pickup or if we need to separate the 2 events.  Thanks in advance!  More information will follow and the next produce delivery may occur at a different location. Thanks in advance!
